I was never a big fan of Starsky & Hutch in the seventies, probably because of the way that girls used to rave and scream over the two stars - it would have been the TV equivalent of liking The Bay City Rollers.
I really wanted to see this movie though - I kinda like these 70's revival movies (though I forgot to watch Shaft last night!) and we liked the casting for the leads, especially as Wife is a big fan of Owen Wilson (in a purely sexual way).
Strangely the cinema was quite empty - maybe too many people thought it's gonna be a cheesy parody, or couldn't remember the original so didn't think it's worth seeing the movie. They needn't worry - the movie stands up on it's own, you don't need to know anything about the series, and far from being cheesy it's actually just a very good, funny (in places totally hilarious) movie. By far the funniest moment for me was "make like a dragon" (you'll have to see it) - I was almost rolling in the aisle and wife was nipping me to "stop embarrasing her" with my wild laughter.
True, the movie does play an awful lot of homage to the original show and almost every snippet from the series' credits sequence is parodied in some way, but that just an added bonus for those who "remember". For those other of us it's still just another funny incident. And strangely, Hutch seemed to be living in Billingham - the "chemical works in the garden" reminded me so much of home.
The only minus point - the overly schmaltzy end sequence with David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser. A fingers down the throat moment if ever there was one, and I guess the ultimate in homage-paying.
Excellent, very funny movie 4 stars.

Glad to hear you both liked it. as we're hoping to see it this week. We were talking about it with a group of friends on Saturday, and none of us could remember anything except the main characters and the cardigan, especially the cardigan!

Don't worry, the cardigan stars in the movie! Surely you remember the car too? Well, the guys should remember the car anyway.

I can't remember the car, I can remember the 'General Lee' though. I liked the testicle story, it's not often men get humiliated by doctors, and I'm not saying it's a good thing, but it does even the scales a bit!

Thanks for telling me about the mouse. She hasn't quite got the hang of how it works, and I am continually telling her that she doesn't have to run it off the table. I will give her a good beating after I have finished posting this.
We went to see Starsky and Hutch tonight. Funniest film that I have seen in ages. I loved the headphones, the dance off, the car, the crying and most of all I loved making like dragons.
I still think Luke Wilson looks a bit odd, but funny enough my wife likes him too.

Luke, Owen, who cares what we call him, yeah he's very odd looking. Wife says that she prefers blokes with odd looking faces and that I'm the only one with a perfect face that she likes! (Or maybe she's lying to make me feel good).

Anyone know where I could buy a cardigan like the one Starsky wore on the tv show and in the movie ?

http://www.starskysweater.150m.com/ is where you can get a Starsky cardigan. It's expensive though. So you'd be better off just buying a Cowichan sweater from ebay instead.
