Hip Hip Hooray. Today is my birthday and I'm x2 years old (insert relevant digit in place of x).
I'm away sunning myself in Crete as we speak (at least I hope it's sunny!) so I can't celebrate with you all, but I'll be hitting the Retsina, Ouzo and Raki tonight for sure.
And oh how I look forward to the pile of presents that will have stacked up at my door awaiting my return. It's the only thing keeping me from staying here forever :-)
What a beautiful place and such perfect weather. Spinalonga Island is a treasure and we shot over 100 pics in an hour! Lunch by the harbour.. :-)

Now that we've been practicing for over a week we're getting really good at this "relaxing" lark. Perfected the art of making a drink last all day!!

I read recently that house prices are rising faster here in The North (percentage wise) than anywhere in the country at the moment - and our town was second in the Top 10. I guess this is born out by the couple who moved into our street from darn sarf just before Christmas. They found that the mortgage on not one but two houses up here was less than they were paying down there (so they bought two). Now, barely four months later they're moving out again, taking a 30,000 profit from the house. Dunno where they're off to, the other house I think. It'll be interesting to see if the house sells quickly - what they're asking seems over the odds to us, but there you go.
I'm glad we're happy where we are and don't plan to move - the price of houses these days is scary and I'd hate to be one of those at the bottom rung of the ladder. Mind, when we got married it seemed scary enough even though house prices were a fraction of what they are now. The thought of having the millstone of a mortgage around my neck scared the living daylights out of me. And it was so alien to me too; me and all my family had only ever lived in rented council houses!
So I've been away fro quite a few days now. I wonder how much spam I've accrued? I get in the order of 200 per day, so there should be well over 2000 by now. If I hadn't joined SpamJab that would have meant a full mailbox at NTL and legitimate e-mails would be being bounced. This caused me loads of hassle last time we went away, some of which I never managed to "repair", so to speak.
The downside is that I do look at my list of spam each day to see what mails SpamJab has incorrectly categorised as spam. This is tedious enough with 200 mails, so when I get back there's no way I'm going to go through them all. Any legitimate mails that get blocked this time will just have to be lost forever!
Visited Rethymno's trendiest cafe-bar today and were the oldest in there by 15 years! But we started a trend - an influx of wrinklies haha!

Crete not Indomesia - this one is filled with relaxed families and sad, fading throwbacks to the flower power era. No, the latter wasn't us!

The mountainous interior is beautiful and spectacular, a little like the Lake District but higher. The caves and bay of Matala are spectacular!

Home of king Minos and the minotaur, the minoans invented flushing toilets over 4000 years ago. But could they flush paper or did they use bins?
