I read recently that house prices are rising faster here in The North (percentage wise) than anywhere in the country at the moment - and our town was second in the Top 10. I guess this is born out by the couple who moved into our street from darn sarf just before Christmas. They found that the mortgage on not one but two houses up here was less than they were paying down there (so they bought two). Now, barely four months later they're moving out again, taking a 30,000 profit from the house. Dunno where they're off to, the other house I think. It'll be interesting to see if the house sells quickly - what they're asking seems over the odds to us, but there you go.
I'm glad we're happy where we are and don't plan to move - the price of houses these days is scary and I'd hate to be one of those at the bottom rung of the ladder. Mind, when we got married it seemed scary enough even though house prices were a fraction of what they are now. The thought of having the millstone of a mortgage around my neck scared the living daylights out of me. And it was so alien to me too; me and all my family had only ever lived in rented council houses!
