Wife has recently discovered Magic Radio on DAB. They play music from the 50's onwards, up to (I think) the 90's, though records from that decade are few and far between. It was quite sweet at first, a bit of nostalgia (I even remember some stuff from my early childhood in the 60's, stuff my mam used to like back then) but eventually it starts to grate on you.
What grates most with me is the constant repetition. You've got 50 years worth of music to play with, why limit yourself to the same handful of songs again and again? If I had a penny for every time I've heard "Hey Mr Dream Seller", "lilac Wine", "In A New York Minute" (I don't even know that song), "Here Comes The Sun" and "You're So Vain" I'd be a very rich man. But topping the lot is "Midnight Train To Georgia". Listen to the show for any given hour and you're almost certain to hear it. I made this point to sister, who refused to believe me, so now every time it's on I phone her and hold the phone next to the radio.
And another thing, they advertise a "Magic - The CD" type of thingy and say that it features "all of today's favourite artists". Like The Beach Boys, Barry White, Barry Manilow and so on. Today's favourite artists? Are they stuck in a time warp?
I daren't mention to wife that there's a Magic TV channel too! Bugger, I just did!
Gaaaggghh!
